Andy Wasserman considers the piano to be his main instrument and a perfect vehicle for the totality of his artistic expression

Andy Wasserman began playing the piano at age 3 and started formal lessons at 7 with teachers trained in the innovative Robert Pace method. He studied Jazz at the Metropolitan Music School in New York City with Anne Bacon Dodge and went on to develop a very deep 30-year relationship with his mentor, Jazz piano master Dwike Mitchell (see photo below). Mitchell talks about his relationship with Andy in the "New York" chapter of the book about the Mitchell-Ruff Duo by William Zinsser entitled "Mitchell and Ruff." Andy earned his his degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in Jazz Studies and Composition primarily focusing on study with Jazz legend George Russell. While at the Conservatory, he studied the classical piano repertoire privately with Ms. Jeanette Giguere, a renowned NEC faculty member.
Wasserman developed his trademark sound, combining an expressive piano touch with an impressive technique. His performances merge his original compositions along with original arrangements and unique interpretations of the Jazz, Hollywood and Broadway "American Songbook" legacy. He is well versed in modern and traditional Chicago & Kansas City Blues and Boogie Woogie piano styles, 'new age', traditional standards and pop repertoires. His rhythmic invention and elegant harmonies stand as a living tribute to the tradition of fine music, past and present. Wasserman is a highly respected and experienced performing musician, popular throughout the United States since 1971.
In addition to his experience in a wide variety of ensemble settings, he has established himself as one of New York City's premier solo piano and electronic keyboard stylists. In 1996 he concluded a continuous nine-year solo piano engagement, performing every weekend in the Ambassador Room of the United Nations Plaza Hotel across from the United Nations in New York City. He has been a regular pianist as well at such fine New York City establishments as the Grand Hyatt, The River Cafe, Dish of Salt at Rockefeller Center and Hotel Intercontinental, among many others.

Andy Wasserman, piano - Lisle Atkinson, bass - Joe Licinski, drums

The connections between these musicians runs very deep. Both Lisle and Andy attended The High School of Music and Art in NYC, and Joe and Lisle have friends in common from 20 years ago. Andy and Joe were both very dedicated students and close personal friends of Guinean master drummer Papa Ladji Camara.
Early in 2008 it became apparent that these 3 artists were destined to make music together.

What an honor to have Lisle a part of this ensemble. A brief synopsis of Master Atkinson:
A Brooklyn-born veteran of gigs and recordings with everyone from legendary bebop trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, to soul-jazz saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, to the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Big Band, Lisle Atkinson was exposed to jazz from early childhood. His father, also a bassist, took him to see the Duke Ellington Orchestra; Beverly Peer, the bassist in Chick Webb's band, was a close family friend. Early on, Lisle was a sideman with Nina Simone and Betty Carter, and in recent years he's recorded with pianists Hilton Ruiz, Ray Bryant, and Norman Simmons. Atkinson also plays the New York area with his Neo-Bass Ensemble.
Andy, Lisle and Joe will be in the studio this coming winter recording their second CD, consisting of all original compostions.
